Over 1.1 thousand primary veteran organizations operate in the Vitebsk region
February 4, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Over 1.1 thousand primary veteran organizations operate in the Vitebsk region. This was announced today at the VIII Plenum of the Vitebsk Regional Organization of Veterans by its chairman Gennady Gerasimovich, BELTA correspondent reports.
The region has seen a positive trend of increasing primary veteran organizations over the past ten years. Thus, in 2000 there were 867, in 2005 - 1097, and as of January 1, 2010 - already 1143. "The creation of these structures is of particular importance, as our work can only be successful when the primary organizations, the foundation of the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans, work effectively," emphasized Gennady Gerasimovich.
Moreover, on the eve of the 65th anniversary of Victory, the role and place of primary veteran organizations significantly increase. Together with district and city councils of veterans and local authorities, they participate in the preparation of festive celebrations and honoring veterans.
As Gennady Gerasimovich noted, in preparation for this significant date, increased attention should be paid to the qualitative assessment of the social and living conditions of participants in the Great Patriotic War, home front workers, families of those killed in the war, former child prisoners, lonely and isolated veterans, and other categories, to provide them with targeted social assistance and moral support, as well as to clarify the extent of coverage by in-depth medical examinations, treatment, and rehabilitation. In addition, veterans should be more actively involved in information and propaganda events and festive events aimed at the heroic and patriotic education of youth, the head of the regional organization of veterans emphasized. -0-
