Vitebsk region has reserves to improve the efficiency of animal husbandry - Nikolai Sherstnev

The ceremony honoring the best livestock breeders of the region took place in Vitebsk today.

The event was attended by the best professionals from all districts of the region. Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev, Head of the Main Department for Intensification of Livestock Production of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Natalia Sonich, Chairman of the Belarusian Trade Union of Agricultural Workers Nikolai Labushev, and Aide to the President - Inspector for the Vitebsk Region Anatoly Linevich addressed them with congratulations from the stage of the Vitebsk Concert Hall.

"Livestock breeding is rightfully the foundation for the development of the agro-industrial complex. Every specialist in the industry knows that dairy production relies on the feed base and strict adherence to technological regulations. Any deviation from technological requirements does not go unnoticed," emphasized the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee.

According to Nikolai Sherstnev, the region has set a course for the construction of livestock facilities. In 2019, 9 dairy farms, including launch complexes, were commissioned in the region. Construction continues this year, with the opening of five more facilities planned. In addition, since 2018, a pig breeding complex for 5,000 sows with a compound feed shop and a grain storage facility has been under construction near the village of Pushki, Liozno District. A similar facility will appear near the village of Goryany, Orsha District. This year, the reconstruction of the Volokhi dairy farm in the Khotily-Agro farm of Postavy District will be completed.

"There are reserves in the region to increase the efficiency of animal husbandry," is convinced Nikolai Sherstnev. "The first is the reconstruction of unused facilities using modern technologies. This direction will allow updating them both in terms of material and technical resources, and technologically. After all, many existing premises were built several decades ago, they are long outdated. The second is the construction of premises using prefabricated wooden and metal structures by own efforts. This reduces the cost of construction significantly, allows solving other issues: replacing labor-intensive processes with more economical ones, and considerably reducing the commissioning time of premises. Moreover, such facilities can achieve high production results on par with analogues made from the most expensive modules."

It is also necessary to create conditions for storing feed. For this purpose, over 200 new silage trenches are commissioned annually in the region. If these rates can be maintained this year and next, the problem will be solved, emphasized the chairman of the regional executive committee.

Important components of the successful operation of the agricultural sector, according to the head of the region, are practice-oriented training of young specialists and comprehensive support for those who arrive for work upon graduation. Another key factor influencing staff retention is the improvement of the well-being of villagers. "The appearance of the village is transforming. Annually, we extensively develop two settlements in the region in addition to the district center hosting the "Dazhynki" rural workers' festival. I think this is the right path that opens up prospects for villagers to realize their plans and talents in their native land. If, along with good work and salary, people have decent housing, social facilities, and the necessary infrastructure, the village will live and develop," noted Nikolai Sherstnev.

Nikolai Sherstnev expressed gratitude to the livestock breeders for their work. "Your achievements enhance the authority of the agricultural sector. And this indicates that our people have reserves to confidently move forward, to tackle ambitious and bold tasks," the head of the region concluded.
