In the Vitebsk region, the number of fires has increased due to frost

The number of fires in the Vitebsk region has increased due to frost, as reported to BelTA by the press secretary of the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Marina Fando.

As of January 22, 92 fires occurred in the region, which is 8 more than in the same period last year. 22 people died in fires, which is 12 more deaths. No child deaths have been recorded.

To prevent fires and deaths, employees of the regional department have begun conducting preventive raids in residential areas, which will last until March. Special attention is paid to the private sector and visits to large families. In this regard, the interlocutor recalled the danger of leaving children alone at home. "Under no circumstances should a child be left alone without adult supervision. This can lead to irreparable tragedies, and there are enough examples of this," emphasized Marina Fando.

Other departments of the Vitebsk region are also working in a state of increased readiness, taking into account the forecast of further strengthening of frosts. Thus, employees of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee have focused their work on identifying citizens on the streets who, for various reasons (health status, alcohol intoxication), are in a helpless state. Depending on the situation, upon discovering such people, law enforcement officers take them to healthcare facilities or sobering-up stations.

RUE "Vitebskenergo" and the Vitebsk Tram and Trolleybus Administration have strengthened their repair crews in the frost conditions. According to Yuri Dyadelo, head of the housing and communal services department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the housing and communal services have established round-the-clock duty of the dispatch service, mobile boiler houses are ready in case of accidents, and a sufficient fuel reserve has been formed for the winter. "At the moment, the situation is stable, and all issues are being resolved in a working manner," the interlocutor stated.

The current temperature in the region is 6-10 degrees below the climatic norm. Frosty weather with no significant precipitation is expected in the coming days. According to meteorologists, on January 26, the daytime temperature will drop to 9-14 degrees, with some areas reaching 18 degrees. At night, temperatures are expected to be 19-24 degrees below zero, with some areas experiencing 25-28 degrees of frost.
