The boundaries of electoral districts have been changed in the Vitebsk region

At the first meeting of the regional election commission for the election of deputies of local Councils of the 28th convocation, which took place on November 24 under the leadership of the chairman of the regional council Vladimir Terentyev, the leadership of the territorial election commission was formed, and districts for the election to the regional representative body were also established.

According to the voting results, Dmitry Khoma, nominated to the commission by citizens through signature collection, was elected head of the regional election commission. Vladislav Muzhichenko became his deputy, and Svetlana Ilyushchenko became the commission secretary.

As reported, the elections of deputies of the regional Council of the 28th convocation will be held in 60 districts, with an average number of voters per district being almost 14.6 thousand people. Proposals for their formation were worked out with local executive committees, taking into account the geographical features of the administrative-territorial units and demographic processes occurring in the Vitebsk region.

All districts form a single territory, but their boundaries will differ from the previous election campaign.

Thus, there are no longer any districts in the region that coincide with the territories of districts, except for Lepel and Glubokoye, in which two districts each have been formed. For example, the Bigosovo district will be formed from the adjacent territories of the Braslav, Verkhnedvinsk, and Miory districts. The Chashnik district will include the territories of the Chashnik, Sennensky, and Tolochin districts, the Rossony district – the territories of the Polotsk, Rossony districts, as well as the urban-type settlement of Borovukha and the settlement of Mezhirechye, which are under the administrative subordination of Novopolotsk.

8 districts have been formed in the Orsha district, and 5 districts each within the boundaries of the Polotsk district and Novopolotsk.

Compared to the 2014 elections, the number of voters in the regional center has increased by almost 2 thousand people (about 263.7 thousand). To form districts in the city with approximately equal numbers of voters, it was necessary to increase their number to 17 (in 2014, there were 16).

The new district is named Gorky. All of them are formed within the boundaries of existing city districts: two in Zheleznodorozhny, five in Oktyabrsky, nine in Pervomaisky. An exception is the Pravdinsky electoral district, which includes parts of the Zheleznodorozhny and Oktyabrsky districts.

The nomination of representatives to the district election commissions for the regional council elections will last until December 1 inclusive. They will be formed by the presidium of the regional council and the regional executive committee at a joint meeting, which should be held no later than December 4.
