In the Vitebsk region, candidates for deputy announced more than 2.1 thousand campaign events
In the Vitebsk region, candidates for deputies of local Councils have announced the holding of over 2.1 thousand mass events and meetings with voters, a BELTA correspondent was informed at the regional election commission.
During the election campaign, contenders for mandates most actively use meetings with voters at assemblies or in other forms convenient for citizens. For this purpose, almost 880 applications for holding more than 1.5 thousand events have been submitted to the relevant district and territorial election commissions. Such forms of campaigning are massively used by candidates for deputies of the regional Council, who have announced the holding of almost 37% of the total number of planned assemblies. Contenders for mandates also attend meetings with voters in district (500 assemblies, or 32%) and rural (about 350, or 22.5%) Councils.
Candidates for deputies of city councils in cities of regional subordination, where the most competitive struggle is unfolding, prefer mass events (outdoor assemblies, rallies, picketing, which are held on a notification basis) for working with voters.
In total, 140 notifications of holding 570 such events have been received by the local executive and administrative bodies in the region, of which more than 52% are in Vitebsk and Novopolotsk.
In the elections on February 18, 2018, 3112 deputies are to be elected in the Vitebsk region, including 2253 - to rural and settlement Councils, 133 - to city Councils, 666 - to district Councils, as well as 60 deputies to the regional Council.
