In the Vitebsk region, Br2.5 billion was allocated for the organization of temporary employment in January-July.
August 16, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. In the Vitebsk region, Br2.5 billion was allocated for the organization of temporary employment in January-July this year, the labor, employment and social protection committee of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed BELTA.
In total, over seven months, almost 4.5 thousand students were employed in the region in this area, which is 128% of the annual target. Under the "Youth Practice" program, 161 unemployed individuals were employed in student jobs created by employers under agreements with the labor, employment and social protection departments of city and district executive committees during the reporting period. "This is an effective area of work for the state employment service, which allows young people who have completed their education but lack work experience to acquire professional practical skills and abilities, and in the future, to get a permanent job," specialists emphasized.
Within the framework of temporary employment for students in their free time from studies, over 2.7 thousand students in grades 8-11 were employed. Priority was given to children from dysfunctional, large, single-parent families, as well as children registered with the juvenile affairs commission and the juvenile inspection department of the internal affairs bodies, orphans and children left without parental care. The main types of work performed by students include landscaping of educational institution territories, monument maintenance, repair of school furniture, routine repair of educational institution premises, book repair, archaeological excavations, sewing of soft furnishings for territorial centers of social services for the population of cities (districts) and boarding schools, and sewing costumes and curtains for their own needs.
Regarding the overall youth employment situation, the committee reported that in the first 6 months of 2012, almost 9.5 thousand people aged 16-29 applied to the employment service for assistance, of whom about 6 thousand were registered as unemployed. Including the carry-over from the beginning of the year, 7.5 thousand young people were on the official labor market. During the six months, assistance in employment was provided to 6.8 thousand young citizens, including 4 thousand unemployed. Assistance in finding work was received by 54.4% of those in need of employment, i.e., every second person.
In January-June, 531 young citizens under the age of 21, including 170 minors, were registered as unemployed. To improve the employment of this category of citizens, local executive and administrative bodies set a target (quota) of 500 jobs for employers for 2012. In the first half of the year, 262 people were employed, including 125 under the quota. Among those employed were 42 minors (16 under the quota).
"As a rule, teenagers lack work experience and professional education, which affects the selection of suitable jobs. Therefore, young people are primarily given the opportunity to acquire a profession in demand in the labor market. In order to improve the practice of vocational training for unemployed young people, as well as to ensure the acquisition of a first profession, 726 unemployed citizens aged 16-29, including 60 under 18, were sent for vocational training during the reporting period," specialists noted.
In January-June, 124 unemployed citizens under the age of 21, seeking work for the first time, were sent for vocational training. 5 orphans and children left without parental care received the opportunity for vocational training. An important area of work for the state employment service is cooperation with the regional military commissariat. In this regard, 25 pre-conscription youths were sent for training as drivers this year, a specialty needed in the Armed Forces and in demand in the labor market.
To reduce the number of unemployed youth seeking assistance, information is provided to senior high school students and graduates about the prospects and opportunities of vocational education, fostering professional orientation of youth towards blue-collar jobs, and youth employment. More than 3.5 thousand school graduates were covered by various forms of career guidance.
In addition, throughout the year, specialists from the departments systematically participate in round tables, job fairs, youth career guidance weeks, and other events aimed at assisting students and student youth in engaging in temporary employment. The department for labor, employment and social protection of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee has created and operates a sector for employment assistance and student youth employment, and in Polotsk, a coordination council of the Polotsk City Executive Committee on youth and student employment issues has been established. -0-
