In the Vitebsk region, it is planned to spend about 35 million rubles on the repair of the street and road network

This figure was announced during a briefing on the topic of tidying up the land after winter by Vladimir Belous, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. Broken roads are far from the only problem encountered in the spring.

Subbotniks (volunteer workdays) have started in the Vitebsk region, but they are not as massive and active as desired and truly necessary. Unfavorable weather conditions are taking their toll: winter is reluctant to give up its hold, adding snow with rain or frost to the pile of communal problems. Meanwhile, tidying up the land must begin immediately. The corresponding instruction was given by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee on March 27. The work commenced without delay.

Overall, the situation in the region regarding the maintenance of streets and the road network, and tidying up, leaves much to be desired. Vladimir Belous elaborates on the issue:

— In the western districts, for example, I was in Glubokoye yesterday, the situation is much better. Glubokoye itself is practically tidied up. In Vitebsk, in this regard, it is impossible to do without cardinal and urgent measures taken by local authorities. The most difficult situation is in the regional center and Polotsk. In small towns, the tidying up of the land began more promptly, and such egregious issues as in Vitebsk are almost never seen there. It also played a role that snow fell in the regional center as early as November 17, and the leaves were not успели (managed to be) removed from the territories around 700 houses. The consequences of such "wintering" will have to be eliminated now. In addition, sanitary felling of trees was carried out. The main branches have been removed, and what remains needs to be hauled away.

Not only utility services but also enterprises are involved in cleaning the territories assigned to them. Citizens are also urged not to stand aside. This is in their own interest! Vladimir Belous emphasized:

— We truly love our city, and now it is necessary to bring elementary order to it in a friendly manner. And this should be done by housing and maintenance departments, the "Gordormost" enterprise, and, of course, we ask for help from the public. Every resident can contribute to bringing order to the land, cleaning and improving courtyards, parks, public gardens, and then help maintain cleanliness and order. We want our citizens to show more interest, not forgetting that it is clean not only where there is no litter, but also where people actively get involved in cleaning near their homes, entrances, and in their own yards.

The range of communal problems faced by residents has been joined by the far from ideal condition of the road network, which is broken. There is a reaction to this. Thus, repair crews are working in multiple shifts. The pace of work depends on the weather.

Road repairs in the region are under special control. Before starting work, a special commission monitored the condition of streets and adjacent territories. A schedule for the restoration of road transport infrastructure has been drawn up. First of all, forces and resources are directed to street repairs. A little later, the focus will shift to courtyard areas. In general, the street surface of the cities of the Vitebsk region covers more than 40 million square meters, Vladimir Belous noted:

— Approximately 600 thousand square meters will definitely be repaired. In addition, repairs of internal territories will be carried out separately. Today, according to the Regulation on the Procedure for Planning, Conducting and Financing Capital Repairs of the Housing Stock, we are carrying out capital repairs. Last year, about 500 thousand square meters were repaired, and there is an opportunity to allocate 10 percent of the funds for the improvement of adjacent courtyard areas. Including for the replacement of tiles, sidewalks, etc. Certain work is being carried out in this direction.

IN CONTEXT

A regional month for tidying up has been announced in the Vitebsk region. Local clean-up events have supported the initiative in each district. Residents of the region will also join the mass spring cleaning during the republican subbotnik, which traditionally takes place in April.
