Vitebsk region is seeing a record voter turnout for early voting in the presidential elections of Belarus
– Today we met the first observers. They represent the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. A total of 30 international observers are registered in the Vitebsk region, – noted the Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee. – The mission is important: firstly, we need to show how the work at the polling stations is organized; secondly, we would like to hear an assessment of our work, so that in the future, perhaps, we can take into account some advice and wishes. I myself recently visited Uzbekistan as an international observer and gained certain experience there. Each country has its own mentality, its own legislative framework for conducting elections. International observers who have come to us must assess how the elections are organized in accordance with our national legislation. Today they will be present at the opening of the polling stations. I think that the Vitebsk region will not let us down and will show worthy readiness.
Vyacheslav Durnov noted that, according to the Central Election Commission, elections are proceeding very actively throughout Belarus. The population is interested in the process and feels its responsibility to the country in fulfilling its civic duty. More than 18% of the residents of the Vitebsk region, out of the total number of citizens included in the voting lists, participated in early voting over 2 days. This is a record turnout.
