Mass harvesting of fodder corn has begun in the Vitebsk region

August 16, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. Mass harvesting of corn for silage has begun in the Vitebsk region, the Agriculture and Food Committee of the regional executive committee told a BELTA correspondent. As of August 16, 4 thousand hectares have been mown, or 5% of the plan. Taking into account the second mowing of perennial grasses, 771 thousand tons of feed units have been harvested in the region, with a provision of feed for one conventional head of cattle of about 17 centners of feed units. In total, this year the region's cornfields occupy about 80 thousand hectares. Under favorable weather conditions, it is possible that part of the crops of this culture will be harvested for grain. Farms in the region are to harvest at least 1 million 250 thousand tons of feed units of grass forage this year, which is 10% more than in 2009. Per conventional head of the public herd, it is planned to harvest at least 25 centners of feed units. -0-
