Restoration of the "Breakthrough" memorial complex has begun in the Vitebsk region
Restoration of the "Breakthrough" memorial complex has begun in the Vitebsk region. It is included in the list of historical and cultural values of Belarus. The monument is dedicated to the events of May 1944. It was here, in the Ushachi district, that partisans broke through the fascist blockade. Thanks to this, about 15,000 civilians also escaped from the encirclement. During the battle, almost 1.5 thousand people died. In memory of them, the monument was erected, which has become dilapidated over time. The total cost of the work at the first stage is over a billion rubles. The funds were allocated from the proceeds of the republican subbotnik, as reported in the "News 24 Hours" program on CTV.
Ruslan Orlov, foreman of Vitebsktorghstroy OJSC:
The load-bearing structures were damaged. They have now been cut off, repaired, new metal structures have been welded on, and framed with two layers of mesh. And now a layer of concrete and mortar is being applied. After that, waterproofing and painting will follow.
