Selective sowing of winter grain crops has begun in the Vitebsk region

Farmers in the Vitebsk region have begun the selective sowing of winter grains, the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Regional Executive Committee reported.

A whole range of agricultural work is underway in the region. Given that dry weather has set in over most of the region, grain growers are increasing the pace of harvesting, which was suspended due to rains. Flax harvesting and sowing of winter rapeseed are also underway. "Some districts have already begun selective sowing of grains. Work has been completed on an area of 500 hectares. In total, it is planned to sow 215 thousand hectares of winter grains in the region this autumn," the committee said.

As for the harvesting of grain and leguminous crops, more than 75% of the grain fields have been threshed in the region, and 790.6 thousand tons of grain have been harvested with an average yield of 32.1 centners per hectare. The closest to completing the harvest are the Gluboksky and Chashniksky districts, where 88% and 87% of grains and legumes have been harvested. More than 80% of the fields have been threshed in the Beshenkovichsky, Sennensky, and Dokshitsky districts. In terms of yield, the Orshansky and Dubrovensky districts are leading, with farmers harvesting 46.1 and 42 centners of grain per hectare, respectively. Good yields are reported in the Verkhnedvinsky district - 38 centners per hectare.
