In the Vitebsk region, a narcologist lost two cars for drunk driving

В Витебской области нарколог лишился двух автомобилей за пьяное вождение

A psychiatrist-narcologist from a healthcare institution in the Vitebsk region has lost two cars for drunk driving, reported Sergey Urbanovich, senior assistant prosecutor of Vitebsk.

The case of repeated drunk driving and evasion of a court sentence on deprivation of the right to engage in certain activities was considered by the Pervomaisky District Court of Vitebsk. The sentence has entered into legal force.

In August 2014, the accused was convicted under Part 1 of Article 317-1 of the Criminal Code for driving a vehicle while intoxicated, committed within a year after the imposition of an administrative penalty for the same offense. The court sentenced him to correctional labor for 2 years with deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to driving vehicles for a period of 5 years. In addition, a Volvo car was confiscated in favor of the state (Part 6 of Article 61 of the Criminal Code).

However, two months after the sentence was passed, the accused purchased an Audi and the very next day, after consuming alcohol, drove to a gas station in Vitebsk. The gas station employees stopped the man from driving and called traffic police officers, who detained the drunk driver.

"Thus, the accused committed two crimes provided for by the articles of the Criminal Code - evasion of a court sentence on deprivation of the right to engage in certain activities, as well as repeated driving of a vehicle while intoxicated," explained Sergey Urbanovich.

The court determined the final punishment based on the totality of crimes and sentences in the form of restriction of liberty for a term of 2 years and 1 month with direction to an open-type correctional institution, with deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to driving vehicles for a term of 5 years, with a fine of 250 base units (37.5 million rubles as of November 2014).

The Audi car was also confiscated in favor of the state.
