In the Vitebsk region, a sharp increase in prices for goods is not expected due to the cancellation of trade mark-up restrictions

October 30, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. The Vitebsk region does not anticipate a sharp increase in prices due to the abolition of trade markup restrictions. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Anna Olshanskaya, Deputy Chairperson of the Economics Committee - Head of the Price Policy Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

"Trade markups have stabilized, prices will not jump sharply," she is confident.

According to Anna Olshanskaya, the department's specialists will continuously monitor prices. As of October 29, when the Ministry of Economy's Resolution No. 141 came into force, abolishing the trade markup limit on most goods, retail prices in stores and markets in the Vitebsk region remained at the previous level.

Alexander Zhelezko, Director of the trade enterprise "Open Joint Stock Company 'Nika'," also does not predict price increases for now. OJSC "Nika" was the first trade enterprise in the region to open several stores with minimal trade markups. "Despite the fact that it is financially difficult to maintain such stores, we do not intend to increase trade markups for now, neither in these stores nor in the rest of the 'Nika' retail chain," the director said.

At the same time, according to him, some manufacturers and importers have already raised prices. "Suppliers will undoubtedly take advantage of the abolition of trade markup restrictions to maximize profits, and trade will find it difficult to withstand these conditions," he stated.

Resolution of the Ministry of Economy No. 141 is another step towards liberalization and provides for the abolition of trade markup restrictions on almost all types of products. At the same time, 50 commodity items remain for which markups will be regulated.-0-
