More ice rinks are planned to be built in the Vitebsk region

The Vitebsk region needs to address the shortage of sports facilities in the coming years, and one of the ways to do this is by building ice arenas, as reported to journalists by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, before the start of a republican seminar with the participation of the country's sports activists.

As Nikolai Sherstnev noted, other regional centers have significantly more ice arenas than Vitebsk. "There are not enough of them in our regional center, but we also need to look at other large cities in the region. Most likely, we will take the most effective path – the construction of ice training facilities," he said. According to the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, an athlete's results depend not only on a good base, but also on character, the will to win, and strength of spirit. Nevertheless, there are sports where appropriate conditions are essential. "We understand where we are lagging behind other regions of the country in terms of material and technical base, and we are trying to solve these issues. Much has been done recently, but there are aspects that require serious work. Vitebsk needs a large hall for team sports and a 50-meter swimming pool," noted Nikolai Sherstnev.

Decisions on these issues are planned to be made in the coming years. The Minister of Sports and Tourism, Sergei Kovalchuk, noted that over the past year, the sports base in the Vitebsk region has improved in rhythmic gymnastics, acrobatics, and trampoline (the Trampoline Jumping Center is under construction). Conditions at the Vitebsk Olympic Reserve School have also improved. "Overall, it is important to increase the efficiency of sports facilities, their utilization, and the improvement of their base throughout the country. The rational use of budget funds and the creation of high-quality domestic equipment are also equally relevant issues," added the minister. Today, a two-day republican seminar on improving the efficiency of the physical culture and sports sector in Belarus began in Vitebsk. It is attended by over 200 people, including heads of sports and tourism departments of regional executive committees, the Minsk City Executive Committee, sports and tourism departments (sectors), and directors of Olympic Reserve Schools and republican centers.
