Vitebsk region plans to commission 330 thousand sq. m of housing this year

This year, 330 thousand sq.m of housing are planned to be commissioned in the Vitebsk region, as reported by Alexander Shidlovsky, Chairman of the Committee for Architecture and Construction of the Regional Executive Committee, at the 29th extraordinary session of the Regional Council of Deputies of the 28th convocation.

The regional housing construction program for the current five-year period provides for a phased increase in housing construction volumes. "This year, we plan to commission 330 thousand sq.m of housing. In the following years of the five-year plan, we will gradually increase the pace of residential building construction. And by 2025, according to the plan, we will reach a figure of 400 thousand sq.m. Thus, the housing provision indicator for the population will exceed 30 sq.m per person," noted Alexander Shidlovsky.

Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies Vladimir Terentyev inquired about the pace of housing construction for large families. Alexander Shidlovsky said that today there are over 64 thousand people on the waiting list for housing improvement. "Of these, slightly more than 3 thousand are large families. These are mainly those who lack just a few square meters and who are building apartments and houses with a perspective for their children. We are working with this category. The number of large families is increasing at a rate that we can provide with the housing they are entitled to," noted the Chairman of the Committee.

The session of the Regional Council also addressed the topic of electric house construction. "If last year we were assigned a task to build over 11 thousand sq.m of housing with provisions for electric heating, this year the figure has increased to 24 thousand sq.m. This also includes individual construction. Residents of the region have become more active and are increasingly inquiring about connecting private houses to electric heating. In this regard, microdistricts where connection to heat supply networks is not possible are being developed. There, the construction of power supply networks for electric heating is planned. In Vitebsk, for example, this is M. Gorky Street, the Nekropolye microdistrict. Work in this area is also underway in other districts of the region," emphasized Alexander Shidlovsky.

He added that along with housing construction, related infrastructure will also be developed. In 2021, Br15 million were allocated for these purposes, and up to Br20 million will be allocated in the following years.
