Another cadet school will appear in the Vitebsk region

April 22, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The Luzhesnyan boarding school-gymnasium for gifted and talented children of the Vitebsk region will be transformed into the Vitebsk Cadet School. This decision was made by the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the director of the boarding school-gymnasium Vladimir Shitko told a BELTA correspondent. "The change in the status of the educational institution is a natural stage in its development," the director emphasized. The Luzhesnyan Gymnasium was established 16 years ago to work with talented children from rural areas. Students were recruited from all over the Vitebsk region. The boarding school-gymnasium became a kind of testing ground for developing methods for working with gifted children and disseminated advanced experience among educational institutions. As a result, 11 rural districts in the region now have gymnasiums established based on the experience of the Luzhesnyan school. According to Vladimir Shitko, the cadet school will allow for closer attention to patriotic education and physical culture of students, while maintaining a high level of training in general education disciplines. The establishment of a cadet school on the basis of the boarding school-gymnasium will not entail significant budget expenditures. The school has a good material base, it houses the region's only handball court, a football field with artificial turf, a swimming pool, and a gym. Modern equipment is installed in the classrooms, there are living rooms and study rooms equipped with computers. Since 2008, the gymnasium has had cadet classes. During the gymnasium's operation, 175 of its graduates have chosen careers in the Belarusian army. The educational institution will be transformed by June 15. The first intake of 48 students will be into the eighth grade. Entrance examinations to the new cadet school will be held in accordance with Decree No. 354 "On Cadet Schools" dated January 28, 2010. Currently, there are three cadet schools operating in Belarus - in Minsk, Polotsk, and Slutsk. -0-
