In the Vitebsk region, half of the initiative groups of candidates for deputies have submitted documents to the election commissions

In the Vitebsk region, about half of the initiative groups for nominating candidates for deputies of local Soviets by collecting citizens' signatures have submitted the necessary documents to the election commissions, the regional executive committee reported.

In total, documents for the nomination of more than 1.5 thousand people as candidates for deputies have been submitted to the election commissions. Almost 95% of them preferred to be nominated in one of the possible ways. Nomination by collecting signatures is the most popular among potential candidates, with about 1.1 thousand people running this way. Work collectives nominated almost 400 contenders for the mandate, and political parties delegated about 30 of their activists. At this stage, the CCPB and the LDP have done so. At the same time, about 5% of potential candidates decided to play it safe and are running for representative bodies of local government in two ways (mainly by citizens and work collectives), and no one has used all three possible methods of nomination.

Among the potential candidates who have submitted documents to the election commissions, almost two-thirds are deputies of the current convocation, slightly more than fifty are young people (under 30 years old), or about 4% of the total number of nominees. In total, in the elections on February 18, 2018, in the Vitebsk region, 221 Soviets are to be formed and 3112 deputies are to be elected, including 2253 for rural and settlement Soviets, 133 for city Soviets, and 666 for district Soviets.
