In the Vitebsk region, efforts continue to eliminate the consequences of hurricane-force winds with rain

В Витебской области продолжают ликвидацию последствий ураганного ветра с дождём
On Tuesday, hurricane-force winds with rain caused considerable damage in the Vitebsk region. Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, energy workers, rescuers, and residents themselves are jointly dealing with the consequences of the elements.

For example, in Novolukoml, in just 20 minutes, the hurricane in some places almost tore off the roofs of residential buildings. The director of the Novolukoml utility enterprise "Kommunalnik", Alexander Dabatovkin, noted that significant damage was inflicted on new buildings on Energetikov Street and on Molodezhny Boulevard. The houses were left practically without roofs, with damage percentages in some places reaching 60-70%. The roofs of six more apartment buildings were damaged. Some eyewitnesses shared that it was possible to see the sky from the damaged apartments. Pieces of slate and torn-off fences flew onto the cars parked below; the number of damaged cars is being clarified.

To eliminate the consequences as quickly as possible, a headquarters was assembled in Novolukoml, and colleagues from other regions arrived to help in the Chashniksky district.

The night was also sleepless for the utility workers of Vitebsk.

From early Wednesday morning, all information about damaged roofs of residential buildings and fallen trees was being reported to them. This was despite the fact that the previous evening all efforts were focused on eliminating the consequences of the natural disaster.

In the courtyards alone, 43 fallen trees were counted. On Lokomotivnaya Street, 7, building 3; Dimitrova, 22, trees damaged cars; on Revolyutsionnaya Street, 29, sheds were damaged. A huge linden tree collapsed and blocked the road on Novy Byt Street, 4; nearby another tree fell on the roof of a private house. The roof of the apartment building No. 3 on Tsentralnaya Street in the agro-town of Olgovo was significantly damaged...

– Vitebsk Housing and Communal Services employees had already gone home on Tuesday when an emergency call came in to gather and eliminate the consequences of the hurricane wind with rain, – shares Anastasia Parchinskaya, an engineer from the landscaping department. – We worked until 9 p.m., and in the morning, we were back on the front lines.

Correspondents of "VV" went to Myasnikova Street, 9, where utility workers, including aerial platform operator Dmitry Baborykin and green construction workers Alexander Panasyuk and Andrey Makarenko, continued their work. They were removing huge branches entangled in the fences from the roof. Several punctured spots were found on the roof – they will have to be patched up. And then, to the next site.

The utility workers shared that the scene the day before was not for the faint of heart. Broken branches of a huge tree lashed against apartment windows, and on Novy Byt Street, the fallen linden tree on the roof also damaged power lines, causing a power outage for some time. All this was promptly eliminated.

As reported by Natalya Kytkina, head of the technical supervision department of the Housing and Communal Services, on Wednesday morning, they received 195 calls and messages from Vitebsk residents about roof leaks.
