May 26, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. In the Vitebsk region, 36 people have died in road accidents since the beginning of the year. This was announced today to journalists by the head of the traffic police department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate, Sergey Motorenok, as reported by a BELTA correspondent. As of May 26, 202 road traffic accidents have been registered in the region since the beginning of the year, in which 36 people died, including one child, and 205 were injured to varying degrees of severity. Compared to the same period last year, there is a slight improvement in the road situation: the number of accidents has decreased by 7, and 43 fewer people have been injured in accidents. The most favorable and safe situation has developed on the roads of Braslavsky, Postavsky, and Gorodoksky districts. The main part of the accidents occurred due to the fault of drivers - due to their inattention, speeding, and basic disrespect for pedestrians. In addition, every seventh accident occurred due to drunk drivers. At the same time, pedestrians who provoke accidents by neglecting traffic rules and their own safety are often responsible for such cases, noted Sergey Motorenok. -0-
