Vitebsk region has the highest potato yield in the republic
Agrarians of the Vitebsk region have started harvesting potatoes. According to operational data as of the morning of September 3, potatoes have been harvested from over 8% of the area (the total potato field area in the region is 3.8 thousand hectares). This was reported by the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Regional Executive Committee.
More than 12.2 thousand tons of tubers have been harvested with a yield of about 380 c/ha. "The yield was approximately the same last year. As for the current season, this is currently the best result among the regions of the country," the regional agricultural department emphasized. On average across the republic, the potato yield is 264.4 c/ha.
The mass harvesting of corn has begun in the region, with a total area of 88 thousand hectares. All districts of the region have started work - valuable fodder crop has been mowed from more than 7% of the area. The yield of green mass is 162 c/ha, which is lower than last year's level (about 200 centners were harvested).
Continuing the topic of fodder preparation, specialists noted that 14.76 centners of fodder units per conventional head of cattle have been prepared in the region, which is more than at this date last year.
The harvesting of spring rapeseed continues in the farms of the region, with work completed on almost half of the area. "The yield of the crop is lower than that of winter rapeseed due to insufficient moisture during the growing season - only 14.3 c/ha. But there are districts that get 19 centners - these are Lepelsky, Verkhnedvinsky, and Polotsky," the committee noted.
"One of the most pressing tasks for September is the sowing of winter crops, for which 213 thousand hectares are planned. All districts have started sowing, and work has been completed on 6.6% of the area. We are also ahead of last year's pace and intend to complete the work within the optimal timeframe - by September 25. There should be no problems here. Farms are provided with fuel," the regional agricultural department summarized.
