Six women from the Vitebsk region were awarded the Order of Motherhood and 25 received the Hero of the Soviet Union Tusnolobova-Marchenko Prize during a formal reception at the regional executive committee, reports a BELTA correspondent.

"True mothers deserve to have their merits highly recognized, to be written about, and to be seen on television screens. That is why for many years mothers have been invited to the formal reception at the regional executive committee, and words of gratitude are expressed to them. Your energy, great patience, optimism, and diligence give us hope that we will overcome temporary difficulties and make our Belarus a prosperous country," noted Vladimir Terentyev, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee.

Among those awarded were also those who participated and won in the regional competitions "Best Large Family of Vitebsk Region," "Best Farmstead," "Master of the Village," and others. "Each family has its own story, but in all of them, children are desired and are raised in an atmosphere of love, mutual assistance, and morality. Such families, by their example, are better than any other preventive measures in combating manifestations of social disadvantage: alcoholism, drug addiction, and social orphanhood," said Vladimir Terentyev.

In total, in the Vitebsk region, 623 women have been awarded the Order of Motherhood, and since its establishment (1987), 372 dedicated mothers have been honored with the Tusnolobova-Marchenko Prize.

As of the first half of 2014, there are 6,715 large families living in the Vitebsk region, who receive comprehensive support from the state. At enterprises and organizations, there are 2,520 collective agreements in place, which provide for additional support measures for employees raising children.
