A unified database of veterans will be created in the Vitebsk region, and their living conditions will be checked
This is an analogue of the republican organizing committee, established by the decree of the President last October and headed by Prime Minister Sergey Rumas. Similar structures have been created in all districts of the Vitebsk region.
— The number of war veterans has sharply decreased in recent years. In the Vitebsk region, there are now just over 1 thousand of them, — said Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies Vladimir Terentyev. — It is necessary to once again check the social and living conditions of their residence, conduct medical examinations, and send those who need it for sanatorium and resort treatment. In general, to do everything possible so that they do not need anything. The work in this direction is systematic, interested departments are ready to promptly help everyone.
Vladimir Terentyev also drew attention to the fact that some veterans are covered by the Ministry of Social Protection, while others are covered by the Ministry of Defense, the KGB, and other силовых структур.
The task of the authorities is to ensure that all of them are in the same conditions, are assigned to enterprises, trade union organizations, and receive material and other assistance.
A unified database must be created, and information about people must be clarified, as some of them may live not at their place of registration, be with relatives, at their dachas, or in healthcare institutions. This approach will help avoid surprises during the presentation of awards and gifts before July 3. Veteran organizations should coordinate these actions.
— This year will be a busy one for us, as it marks a large number of dates important to Belarusians. For example, the 100th anniversary of the BSSR's establishment, the 30th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan, the 25th anniversary of the presidential institution and the new Constitution. Many organizations and institutions, as well as military units of the region, will also celebrate their anniversaries, — informed Vladimir Terentyev. — Work plans for celebrating the 75th anniversary of liberation have been developed in the district executive committees, and the events promise to be interesting and substantial.
Alexander Khristoforov, Chairman of the Committee for Labor, Employment, and Social Protection of the Regional Executive Committee, focused on the fact that his department fully meets the requirements for providing for elderly citizens stipulated by the State Program for Social Protection and Employment of the Population for 2016-2020.
— We identify problems faced by veterans, both during inspections and based on their appeals. We provide financial assistance for the installation of autonomous fire detectors, repairs of apartments, houses, stoves, and electrical wiring. We also provided caregivers and a range of services in inpatient facilities, including 24-hour care units, — noted Alexander Nikolaevich. — If a veteran resides at their place of residence, we try to assign their care to enterprises and organizations capable of providing support.
Lyudmila Kovalyova, Deputy Head of the Main Department for Healthcare of the Regional Executive Committee, assured that veterans in the region receive a full range of necessary medical services.
— All of them will be examined by medical commissions in the near future. Based on the examination results, those in need will be referred for inpatient or outpatient treatment, provided with technical means of social rehabilitation, and vouchers for sanatoriums, — noted Lyudmila Fedorovna. — Veterans are provided with the most comfortable hospital rooms, and they are referred to the Yurtsevo Regional Hospital for Veterans of the Great Patriotic War or the P. Masherov Republican Clinical Hospital for Veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
Head of the Education Department of the Regional Executive Committee Dmitry Khoma emphasized that heroic-patriotic education of youth is one of the priority areas in the activities of educational institutions.
— This academic year, the main events in schools are dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus. Thematic discussions, meetings with combat veterans, "watches of memory," visits to lonely elderly people, and the improvement of memorial sites will be organized, — said Dmitry Leonidovich. — Various events, contests, and projects will be held.
Following the meeting, a plan for the preparation and celebration of the anniversary dates – the liberation of the country and the victory of the Soviet people – was approved.
