In the Vitebsk region, crime decreased by 3.9% in 2016
"Thanks to the joint activities of interested parties, it was possible to improve the criminogenic situation. Crime decreased by 3.9%, and in the field of criminal investigation - by 5.2%. Fewer murders, grievous bodily harm, robberies, thefts, rapes, and other crimes were committed. However, the increase in criminally punishable hooliganism, fraud, sale of counterfeit money, as well as attempted murders is a cause for concern," said the regional prosecutor. He also named the total number of registered crimes - 10,885, while specifically highlighting corruption - in the region last year, 168 corruption crimes were recorded, and 132 persons were brought to justice. Speaking about the tasks for the current year, Vadim Sushchinsky focused on such a pressing issue as the prevention of juvenile delinquency.
"According to the results of last year, the total number of such crimes decreased in the Vitebsk region, but among minors, an increase in serious and particularly serious crimes was noted, and recidivism is also growing. It is obvious that preventive work in this area needs to be strengthened," the regional prosecutor stated. The meeting analyzed the results of the work in 2016 and discussed tasks for strengthening legality and law and order.
