In the Vitebsk region, over 3.1 thousand people were employed in new production facilities in the first half of the year. This was announced at a meeting on the organization and coordination of work of commissions for promoting employment of the population by the chairman of the committee for labor, employment and social protection of the regional executive committee, Alexander Khristoforov.
"In 2018, almost 7 thousand referrals for work were issued to those wishing to find employment, and assistance in employment was provided to 5.5 thousand people. In addition, in the first half of the year, just over 3.1 thousand people were employed due to the creation of new production facilities and enterprises. The unemployment rate in the region as of early July is 0.6%," said Alexander Khristoforov.
At the beginning of the year, 15 territories with a tense labor market situation were identified in the Vitebsk region. These include 13 districts and two cities - Vitebsk and Novopolotsk. As of early August, the situation had improved in 8 out of 15 regions, and the Gorodok and Sharkovshchina districts, as well as Novopolotsk, had improved the situation across all indicators. The labor market situation worsened in the Senno and Shumilino districts. In the former, the unemployment rate increased to 0.8% since the beginning of the year, and in the latter, to 0.5%.
To promote employment of the population, commissions were created in all districts and cities of the region in April-May. Their main task is to coordinate the work on the implementation of the norms of Decree No. 1 "On Promoting Employment". They are headed by the chairmen of the district councils of deputies and the heads of the administrations of the Vitebsk districts. The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection monitored the placement of up-to-date and complete information on the work of the commissions. All districts have been instructed to correct shortcomings, as well as expand sections with additional information and links to relevant regulatory acts.
During the meeting, participants touched upon the issue of forming a database of able-bodied citizens not employed in the economy. The first trial lists for the commissions in the districts will need to be submitted to the republican database by September 1.
In a conversation with journalists, the chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies, Vladimir Terentyev, noted that
despite the fact that Decree No. 1 will come into force on January 1, 2019, preparatory work needs to be carried out already now.
