A video system for remote monitoring is being implemented in the Vitebsk region for tax monitoring

In the Vitebsk region, since June 2018, a video system for remote monitoring has been used for the first time in Belarus during tax monitoring, the press service of the regional tax inspectorate reported.

The pilot project is being implemented on the initiative of the Ministry of Taxes and Duties for the Vitebsk region, and subsequently, this experience is planned to be extended throughout the country, the press service noted. The video system is installed in the office of the business entity whose activities are being monitored. As a result, control is carried out online, and the presence of tax officials directly in the taxpayer's premises is not required.

The relevance of implementing modern technologies is due to the fact that the main task of the tax service is to ensure the payment of tax payments to the budget by increasing the tax literacy and discipline of taxpayers. In this regard, the tax inspectorates of the Vitebsk region actively use monitoring, which allows timely detection of violations without conducting an inspection. The taxpayer can correct the situation and pay taxes on time.

Since the beginning of the current year, more than 50 such recommendations have been sent in the region based on the results of monitoring, and the amount of voluntarily paid taxes has exceeded Br9 thousand. The role of desk audit has also significantly increased. Following the results of such control measures in 2018, about 3.4 thousand notices of identified discrepancies in the amounts of taxes declared in the declarations were sent to taxpayers. As a result, about Br21 million will be additionally received by the budget.

Not only the tax authority, but also the taxpayer can resort to desk audit for self-control to avoid unintentional errors. In the Vitebsk region, since the beginning of the current year, errors in calculating VAT have been detected in more than 1.7 thousand taxpayers. As a result, the tax liabilities of business entities have been increased by more than Br6 million, and penalties have not been applied to them, the press service emphasized.
