In the Vitebsk region, all consequences of the bad weather are planned to be eliminated during January

It will take about three weeks to eliminate all the consequences of the bad weather in the Vitebsk region. This was announced today to journalists by the General Director of RUP "Vitebskenergo" Andrei Panchenko before the meeting of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee on responding to the negative consequences of emergencies in the winter period.

An anomalous situation developed in the region at the turn of the new year. In the last days of 2020, namely from December 29, there were ice rains, which led to severe ice formation, massive icing and falling trees, including on power lines in 10 districts of the region. The Vitebsk and Orsha regions were most severely affected. As a result, more than 1.6 thousand transformer substations failed, and more than 600 settlements were de-energized. Some agricultural facilities, healthcare and social service institutions were left without electricity. The second wave of natural disasters occurred from January 1 to 5, when heavy snowfalls occurred in the western regions of the region.

According to Andrei Panchenko, in addition to the internal forces of "Vitebskenergo", called from the least affected areas, brigades from "Grodnoenergo" and "Minskenergo" provided assistance in eliminating the consequences of the disaster. All human and technical reserves were involved, including diesel generators. This is over 600 people and 100 units of equipment. Work on restoring electricity supply in the Vitebsk and Orsha regions was mainly completed on January 4, and smaller damages were also repaired on January 5. In the Polotsk region, all consumers were supplied with power on January 5.

– The damage caused by nature is quite serious. It will take us about three more weeks to completely eliminate it. This work will be carried out until the end of January, but it no longer affects the power supply. The damage caused by natural phenomena is also being calculated, – stated Andrei Panchenko.
