In the Vitebsk region, 269 corruption offenses were detected in January-May, which is 25% more compared to the same period last year, reported today at a press conference by the Prosecutor of the Vitebsk region Gennady Dysko, BELTA correspondent reports. This was achieved thanks to close cooperation of all interested departments. In addition, the result indicates the operational awareness of law enforcement officers, emphasized Gennady Dysko. There have been no new high-profile criminal cases in the Vitebsk region this year so far. Among the sensational ones is a criminal case against five officials of Vitebsk Raypo. For a long time, employees of this organization, holding leadership positions, were engaged in the illegal transportation of cattle to Russia. The damage from their activities amounted to over Br300 million. There are also developments in the criminal case against officials of the Braslav Lakes National Park. During the preliminary investigation, they compensated 30% of the damage caused to the state. In order to further compensate for it, the property of former leaders, covering another 30%, was also seized. In general, in January-May, 7.2 thousand crimes were committed in the Vitebsk region, which is 15.9% less compared to the level of 2008. Fewer grave and especially grave crimes, hooliganism, extortion, and car thefts were committed. The number of offenses among minors has decreased, as well as crimes committed while intoxicated. -0-
