The Vitebsk region has recorded bridge flooding

April 7, Vitebsk / Sergey Kotovets - BELTA /. The first cases of bridges being flooded by floodwaters have been recorded in the Vitebsk region. This was announced today by Alexander Andreev, Secretary of the Emergency Situations Commission under the Regional Executive Committee, at a meeting of the emergency situations commission, a BELTA correspondent reports. A rise in the water level in the Ordyishevka River has led to the flooding of a low-water road bridge near the village of Kuchinshchina in the Liozno district. As a result, road communication with this settlement, where 10 people live, has been interrupted. In the absence of a detour road, communication with the villagers is carried out via a pedestrian bridge across the Luchosa River. In addition, in the Beshenkovichi district, there is a threat of flooding of a low-water bridge across the Ulla River near its confluence with the Western Dvina, which will interrupt direct road and pedestrian communication with the village of Ulyanovka, where 77 people live. The detour is 23 km long. According to Alexander Andreev, similar situations occur in these places year after year, so these floods have not caused any particular problems so far. Boat crossings were organized in advance, and people prepared for possible inconveniences, stocking up on food and medicines. Currently, the ice cover on the region's rivers is breaking up, and ice drift of varying intensity is observed along the entire length of the Western Dvina. On most rivers, a rise in water level is observed with a daily intensity of 10 to 84 cm, this process is most active in the upper reaches of the Western Dvina, where the rise is 100-130 cm. Overall, the spring flood in the region is proceeding calmly so far, with no ice jams observed on the rivers. A set of measures has been implemented in the region to prepare for the safe passage of the spring flood. To minimize the consequences of the flood, available forces and means have been put on alert, and situation centers have been formed to coordinate actions. The Vitebsk Regional Consumer Union has created a reserve of essential food and industrial goods in the amount of about 35 tons in areas of possible flooding. 27 facilities have been prepared to receive evacuated citizens, and the procedure for organizing comprehensive life support for the population has been determined. Aerial reconnaissance of the flood situation is being carried out with the involvement of aviation equipment from the Vitebsk branch of "Bellesavia".-0-
