Modernization of three flax processing plants is being completed in the Vitebsk region

Modernization of three flax processing plants in the Vitebsk region is nearing completion, as reported by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, at a press conference dedicated to the development of the region's agro-industrial complex and the regional festival-fair of agricultural workers "Dazhynki".

The governor noted that eight flax processing plants operate in the region. Of these, only two – Orekhovsky and Dubrovenksy – play a key role in the region's flax production, accounting for 66% of the total flax fiber produced, including 80% of long flax fiber. Therefore, these enterprises have undergone significant modernization in recent years. The installation of a new line at the Postavsky plant has also been resolved.

"Thus, three flax processing plants will soon be updated," said Nikolai Sherstnev. "The remaining enterprises are in a difficult state, with complete wear and tear of equipment, boilers, and the buildings themselves. A balanced decision will be made for each of them. This problem cannot be solved overnight, but we see where further improvements can be made and where it is necessary to close an enterprise and build a new plant in its place."

Nikolai Sherstnev emphasized that the Vitebsk region has a historical tradition of flax cultivation. Furthermore, it is home to the country's only flax combine, which requires a raw material supply. "Therefore, we will continue to develop and modernize this industry. We have the potential to produce 1.5 times more flax than we do now," stressed the chairman of the regional executive committee.

This year, 15,000 hectares of flax were sown in the region.
