Flax pulling is nearing completion in the Vitebsk region
A total of 15 thousand hectares of this crop were sown in the northernmost region of the country this year in Beshenkovichi, Verkhnedvinsk, Glubokoye, Dokshitsy, Dubrovno, Liozno, Miory, Orsha, Postavy, and Tolochin districts. About 10% of the crops (almost 1.5 thousand hectares) perished during the spring-summer period due to drought. Currently, flax pulling has been completed on the main area to be harvested (small plots remain in Postavy, Beshenkovichi, and Miory districts), and rural workers are actively commencing raw material procurement everywhere.
As of the morning of September 3, a total of 5.9 thousand hectares of flax have been pulled in the region, or 44% of the sown areas. 14.5 thousand tons of flax straw have been procured with an average yield of 32 centners per hectare and an average quality index of 0.87. The leader in terms of yield this year is the Dubrovno flax mill, whose workers are harvesting over 40 centners per hectare of flax straw from the enterprise's fields. The highest quality index of the procured raw material has also been achieved here: the average grade of flax straw is 1.03.
Overall, the situation regarding flax straw procurement is currently favorable, and the pace of crop harvesting exceeds last year's. The region plans to fully complete this type of agricultural work by the end of September.
