The festive event was attended by the Ambassador of China to Belarus Cui Qiming, members of the embassy delegation, representatives of city authorities, the university staff and students. "The opening of this center is part of the Year of Education of Belarus in China. Cooperation between our countries in this sphere is constantly improving. There is an annual increase in the number of Chinese students in Belarus. For example, at Vitebsk State University, their number is currently about 150 people, and in the near future it will increase to 200," said Cui Qiming. He expressed confidence that the center's activities will be successful and fruitful, and will serve for the further dissemination of Chinese language and culture in Belarus.
The Chinese Ambassador recalled that last year the countries celebrated the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. "Over these years, they have been developing dynamically and effectively, and have reached the level of a trusting strategic partnership, forming colossal potential for further development of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation," he noted.
According to the university, the center's equipment will ensure a high level of the educational process. Specially assigned to Vitebsk with the assistance of the embassy, two native-speaking volunteers will conduct training sessions and socio-cultural events for students, university staff, and local residents.
A total of about 1,000 foreign students from 23 countries are studying at VSU named after P.M. Masherov.
