An exhibition «100 Years of the BSSR» has opened at the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore

The Belarusian SSR was a country of creation, glorious labor achievements; its people demonstrated unsurpassed examples of courage and self-sacrifice during the Great Patriotic War. This was a great era, the essence and atmosphere of which are magnificently reflected in the traveling exhibition at the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic.

The exhibition "100 Years of the BSSR" opened on January 22. The opening ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies, Vladimir Terentyev, the Head of the Main Department of Ideological Work and Youth Affairs, Gennady Egorov, and the Deputy Chairman of the City Executive Committee, Viktor Glushin.

Speaking at the opening, the head of the region's parliamentary group expressed gratitude to the museum staff for the wonderful opportunity to feel the beneficial atmosphere of our recent past, and for the younger generation to understand where our roots are, and expressed hope that as many residents of the Vitebsk region as possible would visit the exhibition.

– It is very important that the exhibition features several stands about people, our countrymen, who are known throughout the country, – emphasized Vladimir Terentyev. – These are stands dedicated to the Hero of the Soviet Union, Hero of Socialist Labor, Petr Masherov, and the Hero of Socialist Labor, Mikhail Titov. The exhibits about the ordinary rural worker, Hero of Socialist Labor, Nikolai Efremovich Sherstnev, the father of the current Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Nikolaevich Sherstnev, are very interesting. The exhibition shows that Soviet power provided opportunities for ordinary people from the village and from the working class to realize their full potential.

The Director of the Regional Museum of Local Lore, Gleb Savitsky, noted that during the preparation of the exhibition, emphasis was placed on the development of the Vitebsk region in the context of the history of the entire republic, and stressed that the opening of this exhibition would be a worthy start to the celebration of the centenary of the BSSR.

The exhibits truly arouse genuine interest in a person who is not indifferent to the history of their Belarusian Fatherland. The stands present the stages of the republic's development up to the current state construction in the independent Republic of Belarus. Here, for example, is a model of the MTZ-54 tractor – a gift to the Pridvinye delegation within the framework of the Vitebsk Region Days held in Minsk in 1968. A vase with a portrait of P. M. Masherov, made by the Tashkent Porcelain Factory in 1978. A huge model of the famous MAZ truck – a gift to the Vitebsk Region delegation from the Zavodskoy District of Minsk (1968). A colorful carpet with the symbolism of the BSSR. The symbolic billionth meter of fabric produced by the Orsha Flax Mill in 1970... Photographs from that time also convey the atmosphere of times dear to the heart of a Belarusian.

After Vitebsk, the exhibition "100 Years of the BSSR" will travel to the districts of the region.
