The Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore will present the exhibition «To be Estonian. Estonian Associations»
On May 5, 2015, at 18:00, the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore will host the presentation of the exhibition "To be Estonian. Estonian Associations," provided by the Embassy of the Republic of Estonia in the Republic of Belarus with the support of the Estonian Cultural Foundation and the Estonian Artists' Union.
The exhibition "To be Estonian. Estonian Associations" is an international project that focuses the attention of the international community on the issues of Estonians preserving their unique roots and history in the modern world. Issues of national identity, traditions, and belonging to the Estonian nation are becoming increasingly relevant in Estonian society every year. What lies behind the secret of the resilience of the Estonian nation? Possible answers are hidden in distinctive national costumes and traditional crafts. Undoubtedly, Estonians are a talented and inventive nation with their own democratic position, a sense of freedom, and boundless creativity.
The exhibition features collections of clothing by fashion designers: Mari Aakrе, Diana Denissova, Katre Arula, Piret Puppart, Kerttu Siplane, Monika Kisand, Astra Mõistlik, Triinu Pungits, Liisi Riid, Liis Plaatо, Ainikki Eiskop, Heli Kiverik, Riina Tomberg, Küllike Tuvikene, Merle Lõhmus, accompanied by photographs by Anu Hint. The designers participating in the project dedicate it to the beliefs and aesthetic taste of their ancestors through national crafts. Identical images, colors, and shades, clearly encoded in the Estonian aesthetic taste, have allowed this nation to carry through the centuries and keep their special national style alive.
The exhibition has been displayed in Estonia, Finland, Canada, Minsk (Belarus), and Luxembourg. This is the first time an exhibition of Estonian masters and artists is being held in Vitebsk.
The presentation will be attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Estonia to the Republic of Belarus, Mr. Mait Martinson, the Consul of the Republic of Estonia to the Republic of Belarus, Ms. Kirsti Anapaj, and other representatives of the embassy.
The exhibition will be open until July 6, 2015.
