A meeting on military security and defense of Belarus was held in the Vitebsk region
The main goal of the event is to improve the individual training level of the participants. They are introduced to the main trends in the development of the military-political situation around Belarus, the role and place of territorial defense in modern armed conflicts, and the basics of using territorial troops. A demonstration of armaments, features of deployment, and procedures for territorial troops and special operations forces units has been organized. The practical part of the training includes practicing unit actions in a populated area and in the enemy's rear, including the use of divers. An important part is the presentation of territorial defense banners to the leadership of the regional and Minsk city executive committees.
Such events are held systematically. "The essence of the current training session is that the participants were informed about the specifics of armed struggle in territories temporarily occupied by the enemy, the main trends in the military-political situation, and the approaches of the General Staff of the Armed Forces to the organization and conduct of territorial defense," noted the Chief of the General Staff - First Deputy Minister of Defense of Belarus, Alexander Volfovich.
"Most importantly, an effective system for training territorial defense officials has been established," he stated. "Firstly, we hold an annual theoretical and practical training session with the governors. In addition, a specialization in 'territorial defense' has been introduced at our Military Academy. Twice a year, at this institution, we also train heads of districts and their deputies on courses, where all the basics and tasks facing them during wartime are communicated."
In general, territorial defense issues are given great attention. 2020 will also be full of relevant events. Exercises are planned in the Grodno, Gomel, and Mogilev regions, as well as staff training sessions. In addition, the General Staff will conduct surprise comprehensive inspections of district territorial defense headquarters, the first deputy minister of defense added.
According to the chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, the main task of the participants of the training is to gain comprehensive knowledge on the subject. "Every man must know how to protect his family, and a leader must understand how to protect his subordinate region. Technology is changing, we need to keep up with the times, understand what weapons to stand at the border with," he is convinced.
The head of the region also emphasized the improvement of approaches by the organizers of territorial defense training and a more responsible attitude of conscripts participating in such events.
The training is conducted in accordance with the plan for the training of the Armed Forces for their intended purpose in the 2019/2020 academic year.
