A rise in fires and deaths from them is observed in the Vitebsk region
The event was held via video conference, with the participation of Vyacheslav Durnov, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Anatoly Dolgolevets, Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus, Sergey Meshkin, Member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Head of the Regional Emergency Situations Department, Veronika Derbeneva, Senior Assistant Prosecutor of the region, and in an online format – deputy chairmen of district executive committees and representatives of district crime prevention entities.
– Unfortunately, there is an increase in deaths from external causes in the Vitebsk region. Since the beginning of the year, 30 people have died in fires alone, which is 10 cases, or 50%, more than last year, – emphasized Vyacheslav Durnov. – In this regard, we are holding this meeting to review the results of the work of crime prevention entities in preventing deaths from external causes.
As Sergey Meshkin noted, most fires in the Vitebsk region were caused by human negligence and bad habits, which lead to deaths in fires.
– Looking at the statistics, we understand that we need to intensify our work with all crime prevention entities. This issue is particularly relevant on the eve of the long holidays, – said Sergey Meshkin. – We will pay special attention to families in a socially dangerous situation, large families, disabled people of groups I and II, elderly citizens, as well as individuals who abuse alcohol. It is necessary to develop an action algorithm that will allow us to influence the situation, taking into account the problems of each region of the oblast.
Alcohol abuse and smoking are among the main causes of death, noted Veronika Derbeneva.
– The majority of those who died in the fire abused alcohol and were not employed. For example, out of 30 deceased, 12 were unemployed citizens of working age, 11 of them were intoxicated at the time of their death, – said Veronika Derbeneva. – So far, analyzing the results of the work of subjects of crime prevention in preventing deaths from external causes, we have the most questions for the Vitebsk district, as well as for the Postavy district, where two people died at the beginning of the month. A pensioner who was a Group II disabled person with musculoskeletal disorders, and her son. In general, there are questions regarding social services for the population, the operation of electrical equipment, the provision of medical care, and to the authorities.
