A memorial evening for Alexander Dosuzhev was held at the art salon-gallery "Stena" in Vitebsk

В художественном салоне-галерее «Стена» Витебска прошел вечер памяти Александра Досужева

This year would have marked Alexander Dosuzhev's 70th birthday; he was born in the victorious year of 1945. He dreamed of becoming an artist from childhood and dedicated his entire life to the world of colors. He worked in easel painting, graphics, created collages, spatial objects, and installations. He possessed a natural gift for beauty and harmony. He used to say that knowledge begins with wonder, and he himself never ceased to amaze viewers, friends from the creative community, and critics.

Among artists, he was known by the first letters of his surname – Dos, and this was not a sign of familiarity, but rather an acknowledgment of his superiority and natural intelligence. Dos sounded like a title, and he even matched it externally, appearing everywhere in a strict black hat, as befits a person of noble birth.

In his art, however, he was boundlessly free, unwilling to fit into prescribed frameworks or yield to fashion trends. He sailed on the waves of his own ideas about visual art, invented his own aesthetic, and called it PLIP (an acronym for Surface, Line, and Spot). Alexander Dosuzhev often spoke about conveying his worldview through form. For him, a line was the movement of the soul.

Despite the restraint of his compositions, his works are very sensual and impossible to ignore. It is no coincidence that paintings by this particular artist were chosen for the major exhibition project "The Fence", which showcased the best works of selected Belarusian artists.

Alexander Dosuzhev passed away in early February of last year. He never complained about his health; he seemed strong both physically and spiritually, which is why his family and friends still cannot believe he is no longer with us. But his paintings, film frames, photographs, and memories remain. This was the theme of the evening dedicated to the artist's memory, as spoken by all who attended.

Members of the association “Kvadrat”, which at one time stirred up the artistic life of Vitebsk, – Nikolai Dundin, Alexander Malei, Viktor Shilko, Valery Chukin admitted that Alexander Dosuzhev occupied a special place in their creative circle. He was the author of many creative projects that declared the position of this informal rebellious association.

Other artists noted his sensitive and benevolent attitude towards the work of his colleagues. Alexander Dosuzhev helped many with exhibitions, created posters and flyers for various exhibitions. He generously shared his talent.

– An artist lives on in his paintings, because he put his soul into them, – is convinced the owner of the gallery “Stena” Nikolai Dundin.

Today, the works of Alexander Dosuzhev are in museum and private collections in many countries.
