The first open championship of the Republic of Belarus in goalball among women's and men's teams, with the participation of teams from Russia, was held in the Vitebsk CSK hall.
Goalball is a sport in which a team of three people must throw a ball with built-in bells into the opponent's goal; it was created to help rehabilitate visually impaired people.
Oleg Kirillov, head coach of the Belarusian national goalball team, noted that the championship was made open, inviting foreign teams (not all were able to come), in order to maximally popularize this sport, which is part of the Paralympic Games program.
According to the results of the competition, the first place among men went to the undisputed favorite - the team from Sergiev Posad, silver went to the space town of Korolev, and the best Belarusian team was the Vitebsk collective.
Among the fairer sex, the victory was celebrated by the Korolev team, the Moscow girls showed the second result, and the Vitebsk women, in a fierce struggle, overtook Minsk and took third place.
