July 11, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Wakeboarding has appeared in Belarus. The country's first linear cableway for water skiing has started operating in the Polotsk district, the Polotsk District Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
Wakeboarding is an extreme sport that is gaining popularity every year, combining water skiing, snowboarding, surfing, and skateboarding. There are two types of wakeboarding: cable wakeboarding and boat wakeboarding. Cable wakeboarding can now be done on the lake near the village of Gvozdovo, not far from Polotsk and Novopolotsk.
The organizer of the new entertainment is a master of sports of international class in water skiing, a multiple winner and medalist of the World Cup stages, US Masters, Ukraine Open, and other most prestigious international water skiing competitions, German Belyakov.
The presentation of this new sports entertainment for Belarus will take place on July 21. The program includes demonstration performances by riders from Minsk and St. Petersburg. Free water skiing will be organized for those who wish to experience the thrill. In addition, organizers will provide instruction and necessary equipment. Local authorities will ensure that other vacationers also have a comfortable and fun time by organizing festive trade, contests, and entertainment for spectators.
Despite the fact that wakeboarding is yet to be widely introduced, it has been very popular among locals since the first days of operation. As noted in the district executive committee, such entertainment, organized by professionals, contributes to the development of tourism in the district and promotes healthy active recreation. -0-
