A bike path will appear in Polotsk this summer

A bicycle path will appear in Polotsk in the summer of 2016, the Interaction Foundation reported.

The route was determined by the citizens themselves through online voting. More than 750 people took part in it. As a result, the winning route passes through the city center, the Aeroport microdistrict, and the park. "The bicycle path will be marked on the sidewalks with markings, and convenient exits will be made at intersections. The curb height will be maximally reduced here, and additional signs may be installed. The route will open this summer," the foundation stated.

In September 2016, Polotsk will host the European Mobility Week for the second time – a festival celebrating eco-friendly ways of moving around the city. The construction of Polotsk's first bicycle route is funded by the European Union. The bicycle path is one of the results of a project to create a city mobility plan, which is a transport development strategy for Polotsk. It is expected that the final version of the mobility plan may be adopted by the Polotsk authorities at the end of 2016. The document will serve as a kind of instruction for improving Polotsk's transport communications, making it possible to move around faster, more comfortably, and more ecologically. The mobility plan will set directions for the creation of new roads, interchanges, public transport routes, and bicycle paths. The Polotsk District Executive Committee and the Interaction Foundation are overseeing the work on creating the city mobility plan. The local foundation for promoting international dialogue and cooperation "Interaction" is a non-governmental organization based in Minsk. It specializes in the development and implementation of EU-funded projects.
