Bicycle parking with solar panels will be installed in Polotsk under the "Green Cities" project
Bicycle parking facilities with solar panels will be installed at the observation deck near St. Sophia Cathedral on Nizhne-Pokrovskaya Street, near the monument to Vseslav the Sorcerer at the intersection of Oktyabrskaya and Evfrosinya Polotskaya Streets; in the square opposite the "Belgosstrakh" building in the cannon area, in the square on F. Skorina Avenue near the chapel to those killed in the Afghan War; near the "Phoenix" sports club at Bogdanovich Street, 3. The installation process will take about a month, with the deadline being March 15.
"Specialists in modern urban development are increasingly turning to renewable energy sources (RES). Cities that seek inexpensive, environmentally friendly, and reliable energy sources, and choose the path of smart and green development, are becoming examples and role models. Polotsk is among them. Here, RES are considered an integral part of urban strategies," noted Ruslan Khilkevich.
A solar panel is a free and inexhaustible source of energy, as well as an absence of environmental harm to the environment. Thanks to their use at new bicycle parking facilities, it will be possible to charge mobile phones, tablets, and portable computers. The design of such bicycle parking facilities is laconic and stylish. They will organically fit into the urban environment.
Currently, the total length of bicycle paths in Polotsk is 15 km, of which 6.5 km have been built under the "Green Cities" project.
The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. The goal is the broader development of green urban planning and the implementation of pilot initiatives related to energy efficiency and sustainable transport in small and medium-sized cities of Belarus.
