Verkhnedvinsk rescuers freed a passenger-“prisoner” from a submerged car

Verkhnedvinsk rescuers freed a passenger trapped in a submerged car, the press secretary of the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Marina Fando, told a BELTA correspondent. The accident occurred at the entrance to Verkhnedvinsk near the road bridge over the Drissa River. A Ford Mondeo, driven by a driver born in 1985, drove off the bridge embankment and, after flipping several times, ended up on its roof in the river at a depth of 1.2 m and 2 m from the bank. By the time emergency services arrived, the driver was unconscious in the water near the bank, and a passenger born in 1984 remained inside the car and could not get out on his own. Rescuers, with the help of police officers, freed the trapped passenger. The victims were taken to the Verkhnedvinsk Central District Hospital, where the driver died from his injuries. The passenger is in serious condition. According to preliminary data, at the time of the accident, the men were intoxicated. -0-
