The Supreme Court of Belarus has prepared a draft amnesty for the 65th anniversary of Victory

March 31, Minsk / Vasily Malashenkov - BELTA /. The Supreme Court of Belarus has prepared a draft amnesty to mark the 65th anniversary of Victory. This was announced today to journalists by the Chairman of the Court, Valentin Sukalo, reports BELTA correspondent. The draft law on amnesty will be submitted to the President of Belarus and then sent to parliament. According to the Chairman of the Court, the amnesty will affect a large category of convicts. It is assumed that combatants, women, disabled people, as well as minors convicted of crimes that do not pose a public danger will be amnestied. "The amnesty will affect everyone who has committed less serious crimes and crimes that do not pose a public danger," said Valentin Sukalo. In this case, such a person must have served at least a quarter of their sentence and compensated for the damage caused. As the Chairman of the Court noted, about 90% of such citizens are among the convicts in Belarus. A quarter of them are in places of deprivation of liberty. The amnesty will not apply to those who have already been amnestied before and then committed a crime. According to Valentin Sukalo, there are very few such people, and this small percentage does not discredit the idea of amnesty itself. -0-
