Digital television broadcasting began in Vitebsk
September 15, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. Digital television broadcasting has been launched in Vitebsk, the Vitebsk branch of RUE "Belarusian Television and Radio Broadcasting Center" informed a BELTA correspondent.
The project is implemented according to the plan for accelerated introduction of digital television broadcasting in Belarus, developed in accordance with the State Program for the Introduction of Digital Television and Radio Broadcasting until 2015. The project was financed from the innovation fund of the Ministry of Communications and Informatization.
A DVB-T standard digital transmitter with MPEG-4/AVC signal compression has been installed at the Vitebsk Television and Radio Broadcasting Station, which broadcasts TV programs on channel 43. Currently, broadcasting is carried out in pilot mode. Specialists are debugging and adjusting the signal to ensure its reliable reception by consumers in the calculated service area, which is 30 km. Vitebsk residents and residents of the territories adjacent to the regional center now have access to 8 programs in digital format: "Perviy Kanal", ONT, "Lad", STV, "NTV - Belarus", "RTR - Belarus", "8 Kanal", "Mir".
Vitebsk has become the fourth settlement in the region where terrestrial digital broadcasting has been introduced.
Previously, digital television broadcasting was organized in the Sharkovshchina district and Orsha in the Vitebsk region. In 2009, digital television became available to residents of the Braslav district. This year, it is also planned to organize terrestrial digital television broadcasting in the settlement of Osveya (Verkhnedvinsk district), where the construction of a new broadcasting station is nearing completion. This remote area of the district is outside the reliable reception zone of the existing transmitters. The project is being implemented in accordance with the regional program for the construction, technical re-equipment and expansion of television and radio stations.
To receive the digital signal on a regular analog television, you need to have a digital set-top box of the corresponding standard. However, analog television broadcasting will continue in parallel with digital broadcasting until the complete transition to digital transmitters in Belarus. The introduction of digital technologies allows not only to increase the number of broadcast programs, but also to significantly improve the quality of sound and picture. -0-
