The Vitebsk region veterinary service must strengthen control over cases of livestock death - Yu. Pivovarchik
October 25, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The veterinary service of the Vitebsk region must strengthen control over livestock mortality. This was stated today by the Chief State Veterinary Inspector of Belarus, Yuri Pivovarchik, at a meeting of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, during the consideration of the issue of cattle preservation in agricultural organizations of the region, according to a BELTA correspondent.
According to Yuri Pivovarchik, the issue of preserving cattle and pig populations is currently acute for all regions of Belarus. "Each country has its own regional characteristics of diseases of these animals, so it is better to have your own breeding stock and protect it," he stressed, noting that there are some positive developments in this matter. At the same time, the Vitebsk region, along with the Brest region, has the highest percentage of livestock mortality. And if the latter region has begun to sharply improve this work, then this is not observed in the Vitebsk region.
The Chief State Veterinary Inspector of Belarus cited egregious facts of livestock loss in the farms "Tulovo", "Lipovtsy" and other agricultural organizations of the Vitebsk region. In total, due to mortality and unjustified slaughter of livestock, the region's economy has suffered losses of Br25 billion over nine months. Of these, only Br400 million has been compensated. "Who will compensate for the rest? It's time to put things in order here," said Yuri Pivovarchik, demanding that all measures be taken to preserve the breeding stock, to consider each case of slaughter or livestock mortality in detail, and, if necessary, to involve the prosecutor's office to assess such facts.
The Chief State Veterinary Inspector of Belarus named the lack of technology for raising young animals, proper work with personnel, gross violation of production discipline, low quality of feed, and most importantly, the attitude of the managers themselves and responsible employees as the main reasons for livestock loss.
"Currently, in the Vitebsk region, as well as throughout the country, many large modern dairy farms are being reconstructed and built. Think about what you will fill them with given such an attitude towards animals," concluded Yuri Pivovarchik. -0-
