VSTU develops know-how for the modernized Orsha Flax Mill

Vitebsk State Technological University is developing know-how for the modernized Orsha Linen Mill, as reported by Natalia Akindinova, Dean of the VSTU Faculty of Design, Candidate of Technical Sciences.

"We are currently developing a number of projects of a rather high scientific level – these are new fabric manufacturing technologies developed specifically for the Orsha Linen Mill, which has modern looms with immense capabilities installed during its modernization," the dean said.

The know-how concerns a wide range of products. These include shirt and suit fabrics, plaids, blankets, bedspreads, and complex tapestry structures. "Many of the new fabrics will be double-sided; we are creating textiles with various effects, such as 'scratchiness' and volume. Other fashion trends will also be reflected. Modern equipment allows for fabrics of various widths, including those with a monorapport pattern, and the creation of a continuous pattern resembling a picture across the entire width of the fabric. This is one of the trends that is in demand among buyers," noted Natalia Akindinova. She emphasized that new designs for products that will soon be released by the linen mill are also being worked on.

"High-performance equipment implies rapid design changes. Therefore, we are already preparing a database. There is an agreement between the Faculty of Design and the linen mill, based on which a group of designers from our students has been formed. Together with the enterprise's assortment development department, they will create new patterns for home textiles," the interlocutor shared her plans. It is also planned to implement unusual design solutions. "Bold projects will be undertaken, complex in execution and intended for the elite consumer. We aim to create image-making items that demonstrate the high level of specialists and production," said the dean.
