Vitebsk residents prepare chisels and gouges for the onset of frost

February 9, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Vitebsk residents are preparing chisels and gouges for the onset of frosts: on February 10, another open ice sculpture competition will start in the city, Alexander Sidorenko, head of the department for youth affairs and defense-mobilization work of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, told a BELTA correspondent. The first such competition was successfully held in the regional center on the eve of the New Year holidays. And although only three teams took part in it then, the interest shown by the townspeople in their creative result was high, which became the reason for holding the competition again. This time, seven teams (from 5 to 10 people) will compete in skill, representing teachers, employees of cultural institutions of the city, as well as technical and technological colleges, VSTU and VSU named after P.M. Masherov (two teams). On February 10, participants will work with ice cubes. The next morning, the teams will be engaged in their artistic processing, and will also restore Santa Claus, the Hare and the Cat, created at the previous competition and damaged by the thaw. The alley of ice sculptures will become a real attraction of winter Vitebsk, and the competition, given its open format, will attract a significantly larger number of participants next year, Alexander Sidorenko is confident. The event is organized by the department for youth affairs and defense-mobilization work of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, with active support and assistance in providing ice from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Housing and Communal Services, and the regional organization of OSVOD. -0-
