Vitebsk residents will join the voting for the Manhattan Short Film Festival
From September 26 to October 6, the "Mir" cinema will host competitive screenings of the Manhattan Short Film Festival (New York, USA).
Belarus has been participating in the world's largest short film event for the fifth year. Four Belarusian cities, including Vitebsk, have joined three hundred others located on six continents to vote for the best film out of ten finalists.
This year, for the first time in the festival's 16-year history, voting for the best lead actor will also be organized. According to Tatiana Yekomasova, director of the "Mir" cinema, the 2013 program includes short films from Australia, France, Finland, the USA, Ireland, and England. The winner will be determined by a global audience jury, which anyone can join. To do this, you need to attend a competitive screening and mark your vote for the best film and best actor on a special form provided at the cinema. Then, audience votes from around the world are sent to the Manhattan Short Film Festival headquarters in New York, where the winner will be announced at the final screening on October 6. The next day, their name can be seen on the websites: http://www.tourdefilm.ru and www.manhattanshort.com.
It should be noted that the number of film festival fans increases annually, as festival founder Nicholas Mason and his team curate a program of the most talented and powerful short films of recent years. This year, ten finalist films were selected from 628 films from 48 countries.
The program includes the film "№30," in which a talented young actress auditions for the role of Hamlet—and even Shakespeare himself couldn't guess how it would turn out!
The comedy "Do It All Yourself!" tells about the hectic morning of a Finnish family where the mother strives to control everything. In "Friday," a young man prepares to avenge the death of his mother, who died a year ago during a terrorist attack in London. The short film "No Comment" tells about how a girl makes two unexpected acquaintances with men in the Luxembourg Garden in Paris. "Irish Folk Furniture" is a documentary animation about the restoration of antique furniture in rural Ireland. In the film "Black Metal," the vocalist of a black metal band confronts the effect his violent lyrics have.
Pakistan, Moscow, and Quebec through the eyes of a traveling illustrator with a taste for adventure can be seen in the film "Travel Portraits." The plot of the short film "I Am a Huge Ball of Sadness" tells how, during a chic rooftop party in New York, three guests go beyond ordinary polite conversation. "Cafe Kismet" tells about a waitress who finds the key to the heart of a bored visitor with the help of a song. "The Pale of Settlement" is a film based on real events from the director's family history. It is the story of a ten-year-old Jewish boy who tries to avoid conscription into the Russian army during the Crimean War.
