A Vitebsk resident didn't take his mobile phone away from his ear for 120 days a year
In 2012, a Vitebsk resident spent 120 days talking on his mobile phone. This was announced today by the Director of the Vitebsk Branch of JV "MTS" Vladislav Andreychenko at a press conference dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the company's operations in the Vitebsk region, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"The most talkative subscriber in the Vitebsk region did not put the receiver down for a third of the year. And it's okay, he's not sick," noted the branch director. He suggested that the Vitebsk resident's job requires constant phone negotiations. As for the most active internet user, they used about 1500 GB of traffic in 2012. The most talkative cities in the region turned out to be Vitebsk and Postavy.
The Vitebsk region has 1.03 million MTS subscribers, which is 85% of the region's population, as well as 3300 corporate clients. "Despite holding leading positions in the regions, we continue to grow," noted the First Deputy General Director of JV "MTS" Evgeny Bryantsev. The company has installed 738 2G base stations and 276 3G base stations in the Vitebsk region. At the busiest base stations, the mobile operator activates a third radio frequency carrier. Almost 190 3G stations in the region support DC-HSDPA high-speed data transmission technology, which ideally allows internet access at speeds up to 42 Mbps.
The First Deputy General Director pointed out that over the past ten years, Belarusians' spending on mobile operator services has decreased threefold. If in 2002 a Belarusian spent $15 per month on mobile communication, now it is $5.
Vladislav Andreychenko noted that subscribers themselves play a significant role in network development. About 30% of complaints about mobile communication quality are based on objective factors. "We promptly identify and eliminate these issues," he assured.
The Belarusian-Russian joint limited liability company "Mobile TeleSystems" has been providing cellular communication services in Belarus in the GSM 900/1800 standard since 2002, and in the UMTS standard since 2010. The founders of the JLLC are RUP "Beltelecom" (51% of the authorized capital) and the Russian OJSC "Mobile TeleSystems" (49%).
