Vitebsk resident Georgy Sladkov dedicates his 100th birthday to the Year of the 65th Anniversary of Victory
March 29, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. War veteran Georgy Sladkov from Vitebsk dedicates his 100th birthday to the Year of the 65th Anniversary of Victory, reports a BELTA correspondent who visited the jubilarian.
"Living 100 years is not like crossing a stream," jokes the birthday boy on his birthday. However, despite the significant date, Georgy Stepanovich practically does not feel the burden of years: "I feel only 70, and I plan to live at least 120 years, because my grandfather lived to be 115!". His life credo is: "One must live in such a way that it is good for you and for other people."
The former war participant remembers his biography with precision. However, he cannot recall the war years without tears; this time is like a separate life for him, which can be read from the numerous medals adorning his dress uniform. The most cherished award is the Order of the Red Star, received during combat operations in Riga.
Today, not only relatives and friends, but also numerous friends, representatives of the military commissariat, and authorities gathered to congratulate the respected jubilarian. The Chairman of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, Viktor Nikolaikin, presented Georgy Sladkov with an Honorary Diploma for his active participation in the veteran movement and public life, along with the best wishes.
As noted by the Committee for Labor, Employment, and Social Protection of the Population, according to the latest data, there are 62 residents in the Vitebsk region who have celebrated their 100th birthday, of whom only 7 are men.
In addition, among the region's residents are 6.7 thousand veterans of the Great Patriotic War, 668 family members of the fallen, and 9.8 thousand former prisoners of Nazi concentration camps. Issues of social and household services and medical care for this category of citizens are under constant control of local authorities. For example, in 2009, the housing conditions of 26 veterans were improved. In total, since 2005, 312 disabled veterans and participants of the war have received housing. Applications for sanatorium and resort treatment are fully satisfied. More than 5.3 thousand veterans and their families are covered by the patronage assistance of BRSM members. -0-
