Vitebsk resident sentenced to a long term for robbery of an elderly relative

A Vitebsk resident has been sentenced to a long term of imprisonment for a robbery attack on his elderly relative, Dmitry Orekhvo, senior prosecutor of the department for supervision of the legality of court decisions in criminal cases and analysis of judicial practice of the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, told a BELTA correspondent.

The victim of the 32-year-old resident of the regional center, who already had problems with the law, was the 90-year-old grandmother of his own wife. Taking advantage of the fact that the elderly woman often left the entrance door to the apartment open, he entered the dwelling and hit the old woman on the head with an empty bottle. Then, not giving her a chance to see his face, he began to strangle her with a pillow and demand money.

The criminal's loot included several gold jewelry items, costume jewelry, some of the hostess's belongings, and Br700 thousand, which were spent on a casino and alcohol. However, the man could not escape punishment, as the victim's neighbor saw and recognized him during his "visit" to his relative.

For his actions, the Vitebsk resident was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. The sentence has entered into legal force.-0-
